story
"Cook! Cook! Where are you old woman?" Cook came slowly walking out of her room, "Young Master, tis 3 o'clock in the morn. Why you wake me from me sleep?" Cook was rubbing her eyes trying to adjust to the firelight of the kitchen. "Old woman, make my friends and I something to eat! No questions, just do it!" The young master stumbled as he turned and walked from the room, stepping back in to take the 4 bottles of wine from the table. Cook could tell that he already had to much to drink at the club with his friends. They were a rowdy bunch of young men. "Oh and we need more wine old woman and don't you dare tell my father. Or surely you will lose your post!" Cook roused 3 of the kitchen maids to assist her. "Maggie, Polly, Susie, wake your weary bones and help me. Get up from that pallet now!" The three young girls had shared the same pallet in the alcove in the kitchen. "Polly, take a candle and go to the cellar to get the young master more wine and be quick about it." Polly did not like going into the cellar late at night. There was a terrible draft down there and it tended to blow the flame out from the candle. Polly had seen something move once in the darkness as well. Looked like an old river rat along the Thames. She had seen a horrible thing that day. A drunken man had fell there and did not wake up from his stupor. The rat had started nibbling on him. Polly slipped on her shoes and took the candle from Cook and started to the back of the house where the cellar was located. She opened the big door and walked in, with the candlelight it was still hard to see. Polly felt her way down the steps, hoping that the candlelight did not go out or that she did not stumble down the stairs. She walked over to the wine rack and took 3 bottles from the shelve and made her way back to the kitchen. Cook and the other two young girls had already started serving the young men cold ham, bread and random fruit found in the pantry. "Polly, take that wine into the drawing room to the young master. If he asked for more, you quickly move to get it for him. Do not ask any questions or say anything to him, its best to do as told" the Cook told young Polly.
Long ago, in a country that is across the great ocean where the rain falls half the year and the other half the hot sun beats down on its people, lived a great King and his beautiful sister-wife. This great King and his sister-wife was loved by everyone under his rule. He ruled a kingdom that was great in wealth and mighty of its warriors.
The King was kind and just to the people under his rule and his sister-wife was beloved by all. She was his great pride and treasure. The king had an evil brother. His brother was jealous of how much the people of the land loved the King and his sister-wife. He coveted everything the King held closely and desired the King's sister-wife who was his sister as well.
One day the evil brother lured the King into the deep dark desert of the land. Once he had the king out there, he began to stab him. The King asked "Why my brother? Why are you trying to kill me?". The evil brother said, "You hold everything within your grasp and you are loved by all where everyone despises me and looks away when I walk by. I have royal blood as much as you do but they just see me as something to be hated".
As the evil brother continued to stab the King, he decided it would be best to sever all the King's body parts and hide them throughout the country. No one would ever find the King's missing body and soon the evil brother would be ruler over the vast country.
For days the sister-wife waited for her husband to return. She knew that when the next festival came around, if her husband was not there to give the great offering then he would be considered lost and his brother would be crowned the new king.
